High Estimate2500
Low Estimate1500
serial #14433, .36 cal, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a bright very good bore showing strong rifling and some light oxidation and frosting throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver have been cleaned in-the-white and show some freckling, minor oxidation staining and tiny pinprick pitting throughout. Many of the small inspector marks are still very clear, the second line of the barrel marking is largely faded and the first line remains very clear. The hammer spur has been lightly dressed and no checkering remains. The original silver cone front sight is intact and the brass triggerguard has also been lightly cleaned and is starting to take on an ochre patina. The sides of the trigger still show some faint hints of original fire temper blue with the remainder mostly toned to gunmetal. The smooth walnut grips are un-numbered but fit the frame very well perhaps having been lightly cleaned long ago. They remain in good overall condition with worn finish, some scattered dings, scratches, dents, four notches chipped out of the base of the left panel, a prominent 1 1/2" scratch on the right grip and twelve further small notches scratched into the top of the right panel. There is no evidence of an inspector cartouche on the grip panels but this example falls into the serial range of the U.S. Army purchase and the sub-inspector marks are present on many of the parts including an "S" on the barrel, frame and cylinder and a "P" on the frame. This revolver still functions very well with a robust hammer, strong timing and lockup just a little loose. A solid overall example of a scarce martially-marked Remington-Beals Navy.
