High Estimate2200
Low Estimate1800
serial #246043, 250-3000 & 410 bore, 22'' tapered round rifle barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing a hint of minor frosting near the muzzle and strong rifling throughout and 22'' round shotgun barrel choked full with a bright excellent bore showing a few minor freckles. This rifle may have been factory-refurbished or reworked as it is slightly outside of the normal range for 250-3000 rifles and shows a later style buttstock and grooved trigger. The rifle barrel retains about 90% original blue showing some scattered very light oxidation staining and mild handling marks with the blue taking on a dark plum patina under bright light. The shotgun barrel retains about 95% original blue showing a few very small areas of light pitting. The action retains about 80-85% factory rust blue showing some overall thinning to pewter gunmetal along with a couple small dings and areas of light pitting on the sides. The lever retains strong case-hardened colors throughout with some areas muting slightly and the bolt remains mostly bright. All markings remain intact and strong and the left side action and barrel show ''SAP'' Savage proof stamp. The checkered pistolgrip walnut buttstock and schnabel forend remain in very fine condition showing a very neat 1 5/8'' patched repair at the right edge forend, a few very thin slivers near the upper tang and some scattered light handling marks. The checkering shows some light wear and the buttstock and buttplate are matching; the forend is numbered ''246048'', likely a factory error but is the correct length for a 250-3000. The rifle is sighted with proper German silver bead front sight on integral ramp, a flattop sporting rear and Lyman tang sight with wide aperture disc. The action seems to function well mechanically and the shotgun barrel will require a little additional fitting to get the forend to seat fully. The vintage W. W. Winship black case remains in very good plus condition showing some scattered scuffs and handling marks along the exterior. The interior is lined with deep purple baize that shows some mild staining and scuffs. A fine two-barrel set for the Savage collector.
