Item Details
Interesting Colt Single Action Army Revolver, SN 246562. Shipped to Indian Territory in 1903 as confirmed by the accompanying Colt Archive Letter that states it is a .45 caliber revolver, with a 4 3/4 barrel, blue finish and stocks not listed when shipped to Turner Hardware Company in Muskogee, (Indian Territory) Oklahoma on August 4, 1903 in a shipment of 10 guns. The gun has simple but tasteful, aftermarket engraving on the frame, cylinder, trigger guard, back strap and barrel. It has been nickel plated and a pair of nicely fitted, aged pearl stocks have been added. The most interesting feature is the hammer which has been modified by bending it to the left, making it more convenient for a right handed shooter to operate. The embellishments on this gun match very closely to a gun housed in the NRA museum which is described as having been owned by Audie Murphy and used by him in numerous western films. It is unknown whether the revolver offered here has any attribution to Audie Murphy or if it was made to have a similar configuration at a previous owner’s request. The action functions properly and the bore is good on this colorful old revolver. (MODERN)
