Year1966
With a maximum speed of 150 mph, a 0-60 time of 7 seconds and a 1/4 mile time of 14.9 seconds, UK magazine Motor declared the 4.2L E-type Coupe as the fastest car they had ever tested. They went on to state "The absurd ease which 100 mph can be exceeded in a ?1/4 mile never failed to astonish. 3,000 miles of testing confirms that this is one of the worlds outstanding cars". And more than 50 years later, Jaguar's E-type is still indisputably one of the world's most outstanding cars.
This superb late-production ‘Series I’ specimen of the iconic E-Type is finished in its original attractive period color combination of red over black. This matching-numbers E-type was completely gone through during 2015 and sorted with new genuine components sourced from the UK. It was sold new to the famous painter Charles Kassler II of San Diego, where it lived all its life as evidenced by its California “Black Plates”. This E-Type has led an easy life, never having been abused, raced or dented. It is straight as an arrow and will be a delightful car to show, take on long rives, participate in car events, or collect.
In October 2015, the car was completely stripped to bare metal after hood, hatch, and glass removal, and repainted with Glasurit solvent-based color and clear coat. All rubber components were replaced, including windshield gaskets. All chrome has been refinished to the highest standard the industry can produce, and some mouldings were entirely replaced with new items. The car has undergone a complete mechanical renovation, including rebuilding of the 3 SU carbs, ignition, cooling, brakes and suspension, plus installation of new shocks front and rear. A factory exhaust system was also fitted with new chrome pipes. The interior is completely renovated with leather seats, console, and arm rest, 100% Wilton wool carpeting, and matching vinyl as original.
Riding on 5 new Dayton wire wheels and new Michelin tires, the E-Type features new lights front and rear, along with all new badges and chrome trim parts. This Jaguar retains its factory tool pouch, jack, and all owner’s manuals, including the manufacturer’s warranty card signed and dated by Charles Kassler II, who took delivery from new at British Motor Sales Co. of San Diego, California in 1966. The car remained in his family for 50 years until acquired by its present owner. The restoration took place during 2014 and 2015 and the vehicle is accompanied by receipts and a recently issued heritage certificate.
In 2016, the current owner had the later model cylinder head added to gain an additional 30 horsepower. At this time, a new clutch was installed as well. Of course, the original, numbers matching head is included with the car.
