On August 6, 2011, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter was tragically shot down by enemy fire in Afghanistan considering this worst loss of life in a single incident during the Afghanistan campaign. 30 active duty military, and 1 military working dog, were killed in action on this day leaving shocked and broken families in their wake. To celebrate these incredible lives and support families of fallen heroes, the 3rd Annual Extortion 17 Memorial Ride will take place on August 2, 2014 in Virginia Beach, VA. Since the rides inception in 2012, this event has raised over $335,000 for the families of Extortion 17 (2012) and key charity partners (2013). All proceeds from the 2014 Extortion 17 Memorial Ride will go to The 31Heroes Project and The Travis Manion Foundation. The 31Heroes Project was established to honor the 30 Americans and a working dog killed in action on August 6, 2011. Today 31Heroes serves to impact the lives of our nation’s heroes and their families, while remembering the fallen, through athletic endeavors and competitive fundraising events. The Travis Manion Foundations mission is to to assist veterans and fallen heroes, and to inspire a spirit of service throughout the nation.
