Item Details

Identified Gettysburg Battlefield pickup grouping having a Colt 1860 Army revolver in its flap holster, a leather belt with oval 1839 Pattern belt plate, white leather gauntlets, and folding eyeglasses. An accompanying letter lists these items as having been recovered by a Nary family ancestor in July, 1863 on the family farm east of Gettysburg between Rock Creek and East Calvary Field. The name Heulings is written inside the right gauntlet. Included with this lot are copies of muster rolls and pension papers for William H. Heulings who served in both the 19th and the 90th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiments. The Colt 1860 Army revolver with a 44 caliber 8” barrel is serial number 66674 (made 1862), matching including wedge (did not check grips but they fit correctly) with a good cartouche on each grip. It has an untouched patina overall, brown on the iron parts and nice mustard on the brass, clear markings, and most of the cylinder scene. The hand spring is broken or missing, otherwise it is mechanically fine. The holster flap has become unstitched, but all leather is still flexible with most of its black finish. The black leather belt is in the same condition as the holster, surface cracking but no significant flaking while the 1839 Pattern US belt plate, with arrow hooks, has an untouched patina with some denting and staining. The gauntlets are dirty with some losses to the left sleeve cuff, but the glove areas are still flexible. The iron frame glasses have good lenses with no cracks. DS-231. (3,000-6,000).
